ABOUT US

Our Background

The Stryant companies were formed by Stan Sugarman and Atticus LeBlanc in 2009 with the purpose of finding undervalued real estate investments in the metro Atlanta area.  We’ve acquired and renovated several hundred units and a handful of commercial properties since then. 

 

As investors, our guiding philosophy is to improve properties and neighborhoods through construction projects that add more in value than cost.  In 2011, we started Stryant Construction and Management, Inc to bring a similar philosophy to homeowners and investors in need of construction services.

Greg joined Stryant in January 2015 to manage and oversee all client construction projects.  Greg is a detail-oriented and experienced construction manager dedicated to providing top-notch customer service to all Stryant clients. 

 

From 2007 – 2015 Greg served as the VP of Construction for Weidmann Remodeling, overseeing a team of 4 project managers and 10 construction professionals to complete over 35 projects per year.  He has also served as a production manager for a large production home-builder, completing a home from the ground up in only 8 days!

 

Greg is also a licensed general contractor, and graduated from LSU with a degree in Construction Management. He currently lives in Smyrna with his wife, and enjoys all types of sports and outdoor activities.

Alejandro/Alex joined the Stryant team in June 2016 to take over the day-to-day management of several construction projects. 

 

As a trained architect and experienced licensed builder Alex has an eye for design detail and good workflow organization. He takes pride in delivering superior craftsmanship and top value service to Stryant clients.

 

Before joining Stryant, Alex was a speculative home builder in Boston and Decatur. He also worked closely with the design/build community in Georgia, Texas and Florida as brand manager for the largest North American natural stone quarrier. In his downtime, Alex stays active with his family, running the Peachtree, sailing whenever he can, exploring the great outdoors, and traveling across the US and internationally. He also continues to manage a small wine importing business.

Don Edwards is a construction project manager with over 20 years of experience.  After honorably serving 6 years in the Marine Corps Don went to work with his father building homes in gated communities of the north Georgia mountians.  In 1999 Mr. Edwards started focusing on remodeling, renovation and new construction in the in-town Atlanta market.  

 

Since that time Don has delivered hundreds of projects throughout the metro Atlanta area on time and on budget. Some of the projects include multi-million dollar single family residences, renovations in a 110+ year old church building, Historical Loft renovations, and building out numerous commercial spaces.  Before coming to Stryant Construction, Mr. Edwards facilitated projects for a small boutique remodeling company in the Druid Hills area.

 

Don has a Bachelors of Science in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Mr. Edwards lives in Kirkwood with his children.  His activities outside of work include being a soccer dad and enjoying all that in-town living has to offer as well as volunteering with many neighborhood charities and projects.

Trey Joined Stryant Construction in October 2019 to serve as a Residential Project Manager. After searching high and low for a company that promised to put the client’s needs first while continuing to exceed expectations, Trey came across Stryant Construction and was thrilled to join their team.

 

Originally from North Carolina, Trey has managed projects across the US, from Wisconsin to Texas. He specialized in the design-build rehabilitation of buildings listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places, then ended up in Houston, TX with a custom home company where he was awarded the Houzz Customer Service Award and 2015 Best Remodel from the Texas Association of Builders. During his time with a national homebuilder in North Carolina, Trey was also responsible for multiple communities that produced over 175 homes in a calendar year.

 

Along with being a licensed contractor, Trey has a Construction Management degree from East Carolina University where he represented the department student body as President. He and his wife moved to Atlanta earlier this year and live in the Kirkwood area. Community means everything to them. Outside of Stryant, Trey enjoys building custom furniture, spending time outdoors, and serving others through mission work. Recently he completed a large well project to provide clean water for a Guatemalan village.

James joined Stryant in 2017 to supervise the diverse facets of Commercial Construction projects. Starting with the rehabilitation of the historic George W. Adair School in West End and moving forward to convert Atlanta warehouses into retail and commercial spaces.  Before moving to Atlanta, James oversaw numerous construction projects in Maryland; primarily Multi-Family and Tax-Credit Affordable Senior Housing. In 2014, Energy Star awarded James’s construction team for Superior Energy Efficiency in a Multi-Family building. James also earned the OSHA 30 Certification in 2014. 

Past projects James completed include: A commercial space renovation in Alexandria, VA for tenant build out converted into a CrossFit gym. Assistant Superintendent of Construction for a two-story podium deck for student housing, townhouses, and a pre-cast parking garage for the University of Maryland, College Park. 

James resides in North Georgia where he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. James and Maggie operate a small business raising pastured poultry for local Farmers’ Markets and Farm Fresh Turkeys for Thanksgiving. Growing up in a family of six boys on a small farm formed James with the gifts of being driven, diligent, and thriving in busy situations.

Aaron joined Stryant construction in February of 2019 to oversee commercial projects for the company.

Prior to joining Stryant  Aaron worked as a superintendent for a national construction company, completing projects from small retail, to a large multifamily development. 

Aaron is also a licensed general contractor with over 15 years of experience working in many different phases of construction.

Outside of Stryant Aaron enjoys building furniture, and spending time with his wife and son. Aaron and his wife have lived in Edgewood for 10 years, and in Atlanta for 13.

Carla Lynn Johnson joined Stryant in 2011 as Vice President of Operations, and is responsible for all accounting, billing, and payroll for the company.  Carla is proud to be the only native Atlantan at Stryant, and has been in the Accounting/Real Estate, and Construction fields for over 25 years.

 

She is a member of CREW, Commercial Real Estate 
Women.Carla received an Associate degree in Accounting from Ashworth College and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Clayton State University.  

 

Outside of the office, Carla enjoys running her side business, LaDiDa’s Embroidery and gifts, as well as spending time doting on her adorable grandchildren.

Atticus is the founder of PadSplit, PBC as well as a co-founder of Stryant Investments, LLC, and Stryant Construction & Management, Inc.  He has been an affordable housing advocate and real estate investor since 2008, having owned and managed over 550 affordable residential units and over 200k sf of intown commercial space. 

 

He is the co-chair of ULI’s UrbanPlan Education Initiative, co-chaired the Design For Affordability Task Force in 2018, and serves in multiple civic and volunteer capacities around Atlanta.

 

He graduated from Yale University in 2002 with a BA in Architecture and Urban Studies, and currently lives in Decatur with his wife, Alison, their 4 boys, 2 dogs, and lots of chickens.

Prior to co-founding Stryant, Mr. Sugarman was previously director of preconstruction services of Sharpe Construction, Inc., an Atlanta based general contractor that specializes in retail construction. Sharpe Construction, Inc. has completed projects for RaceTrac Petroleum, QuikTrip Corporation, California Pizza Kitchen, Starbucks, Rooms To Go, Taco Mac and other regional chains. 

 

Previous to Sharpe Construction, Inc., Mr. Sugarman held several construction positions with 2 regional corporate chains including manager of new store construction, development manager and project manager. He built and/or developed over 75 locations, and remodeled another 100 stores. 

 

Mr. Sugarman has a Political Science degree from Emory University. He is the President of the Kirkwood Neighborhood Organization and has lived in Kirkwood for 8 years and resident of Atlanta for 13 years.
